A Home Filled with Love, Hearts Overflowing with Gratitude: Our Thanksgiving 2026 in Canada

Some of life's most beautiful blessings are not measured by what we have, but by the people who surround us, the struggles we have overcome, and the dreams we once prayed for that have finally become reality.

There are moments in life that we wish we could hold onto a little longer. Moments when time seems to slow down, laughter fills the air, and our hearts quietly remind us how blessed we truly are.

Our Thanksgiving celebration this year was one of those moments.

On October 10, 2026, we welcomed our beloved family to the main lobby lounge of our new condominium for a Thanksgiving gathering that would become another beautiful chapter in our journey here in Canada.

It was more than an afternoon of delicious food, meaningful conversations, and family togetherness. It was a celebration of love, gratitude, perseverance, and the countless blessings that brought us to where we are today.

And perhaps what made this Thanksgiving even more special was knowing that, after years of dreaming, working, and overcoming life's uncertainties, we were finally celebrating it at our new residence, a place that once existed only in our hopes and prayers.

A New Home, A Beautiful Season, and Grateful Hearts

Autumn has always had a special way of making the world feel peaceful and beautiful.

Outside the lounge windows, our condominium courtyard was surrounded by the breathtaking colours of fall. The leaves had turned into beautiful shades of gold, orange, red, and brown, creating a natural masterpiece that reminded us of the changing seasons of life.

Inside the lounge, we brought that same autumn beauty into our Thanksgiving celebration.

We carefully decorated the room with a warm fall-inspired theme. Every little detail was prepared with excitement, from the seasonal decorations to the dining arrangements and the welcoming atmosphere we hoped to create.

We wanted our family to feel something greater than the beauty of the decorations.

We wanted them to feel welcomed, appreciated, and loved.

As we finished our preparations, we couldn't help but reflect on how meaningful this particular Thanksgiving had become.

Our new residence was once just a dream, something we worked toward while facing the ordinary challenges and uncertainties of building a life in another country.

And now, here we were, preparing to welcome our loved ones into this new chapter of our lives.

Sometimes, the most beautiful part of achieving a dream is not the achievement itself, but finally having someone to share it with.

A Table of Shared Blessings, A Celebration of Togetherness

As our family began arriving around three in the afternoon, the atmosphere slowly transformed into something wonderfully familiar.

Greetings turned into conversations. Conversations grew into stories. And before long, the lounge was filled with the unmistakable sound of family laughter.

There is something deeply comforting about being surrounded by people with whom you can simply be yourself.

No need for grand occasions or expensive celebrations. Just familiar faces, genuine smiles, and the simple happiness of being together.

One of the most beautiful parts of our Thanksgiving gathering was the food we shared.

Each family brought something they had lovingly prepared or chosen to contribute to our Thanksgiving table.

Little by little, the table became a wonderful collection of dishes, each representing a family's generosity, effort, and willingness to share.

It was a simple gesture, yet one that carried such a beautiful meaning.

Every family contributed with love and generosity, bringing not only delicious food to share but also the warmth, laughter, and togetherness that made our Thanksgiving celebration truly special.

Together, we created something far more valuable than a feast.

We created a beautiful expression of family love.

As we gathered around the table, we realized that Thanksgiving is not simply about enjoying a meal.

It is about recognizing the blessings behind every dish, appreciating the hands that prepared it, and being thankful for the people seated beside us.

Every serving was an act of sharing.

Every conversation was an opportunity to reconnect.

And every smile was a gentle reminder that life's greatest blessings are often found in the simplest moments.

The beauty of our Thanksgiving table was not in how much food we had, but in how much love everyone brought to share.

Five Hours of Togetherness, A Lifetime of Memories

From three in the afternoon until eight in the evening, the room became a place where stories unfolded and beautiful memories were created.

Throughout our gathering, conversations travelled through so many chapters of life.

We shared stories of our experiences, celebrated personal achievements, remembered moments that made us stronger, and laughed about things that only family could truly understand.

There were cheerful conversations that brought endless laughter.

There were inspiring stories of achievements, dreams, and goals gradually becoming reality.

And there were emotional moments that reminded us that behind every smiling face is a story of sacrifices, silent battles, and personal victories.

Then came a special revelation, one that made our gathering even more memorable.

It was one of those moments that added an unexpected depth of emotion to an already meaningful celebration.

Some moments are simply too precious to measure in words. What matters most is the love surrounding them, the people who witness them, and the memories they leave in our hearts.

Looking around, we could see how much life had changed for everyone.

Each family had its own journey, its own challenges, and its own reasons to be thankful.

Yet despite our different experiences, we were united by something beautiful.

Family.

Five hours may sound like a long gathering, but when you're surrounded by people you love, time never seems to be enough.

Thankful Not Only for the Blessings, but Also for the Battles

This year, our hearts carry so much gratitude.

We are thankful for good health, for our safety, for the strength of our family, and for the opportunities that continue to come our way.

We are grateful for the goals we have reached, the dreams that are slowly unfolding, and the ideas that we have found the courage to turn into reality.

But beyond the achievements and blessings, we are also thankful for something that is not always easy to appreciate.

The struggles we survived.

Because life has never been a continuous journey of happiness and success.

There have been difficult days, unanswered questions, uncertain tomorrows, and moments when the road ahead seemed overwhelming.

There were dreams that required patience, sacrifices that nobody else could see, and challenges that tested our determination to keep moving forward.

Yet somehow, through every season of difficulty, we found reasons to continue.

We learned that progress does not always happen as quickly as we hope. Sometimes, life asks us to wait. Sometimes, it teaches us to begin again. And sometimes, it leads us somewhere more beautiful than we ever imagined.

Looking back, we realize that even our hardest experiences have helped shape the people we are becoming.

They have taught us to appreciate the little things, to celebrate even the smallest victories, and to never take the gift of another day for granted.

Today, when we look at everything we have accomplished, we don't just see the results of our efforts.

We remember the sacrifices behind them.

We remember the courage it took to begin.

We remember the days when giving up might have seemed easier than carrying on.

And above all, we remember that we never made it this far through our own strength alone.

Perhaps the greatest blessing is not having a life without struggles, but having the strength, faith, and love to overcome them.

Five Years of Thanksgiving, Five Years of Growing Gratitude

This is my fifth year celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving.

When I think about that, I cannot help but feel emotional.

It seems like only yesterday when Canada was still a new chapter in our lives, a country filled with unfamiliar experiences, endless possibilities, and dreams waiting to unfold.

Like many people who leave their homeland in pursuit of a better future, we arrived carrying hopes in our hearts and questions about what the coming years would bring.

We had to learn, adjust, work hard, and find our place in a country far from where our story began.

We missed the familiarity of home, the comfort of being close to loved ones, and the life we had known for so many years.

But we also carried something that kept us moving forward.

Hope.

Hope that our sacrifices would someday bear fruit.

Hope that our efforts would lead us toward a better future.

And hope that one day, we would look back and realize that every difficult step had been worth taking.

Slowly, year after year, we started building a life.

My first Thanksgiving in Canada was a new experience, an opportunity to understand and appreciate a beautiful tradition.

But five years later, Thanksgiving has become something much deeper.

It has become a time to look back and recognize how far we have come.

Each year has brought new experiences, new lessons, new blessings, and new reasons to be grateful.

And this year, as we celebrated with our loved ones at our new condominium, we felt the beauty of that journey more deeply than ever before.

The dreams we once talked about are gradually becoming part of our everyday lives.

The country that once felt unfamiliar has become a place where we are building our future.

And the people who have shared this journey with us continue to make every milestone more meaningful.

Five Thanksgivings in Canada, and my heart has never felt more grateful.

What does Home mean to us

As the evening approached and our celebration slowly came to an end, we found ourselves reflecting on something simple yet profound.

What really makes a house a home?

Is it the walls that protect us? The furniture we carefully choose? The decorations we proudly display?

Or is it something we cannot buy?

We believe a house becomes a home when it is filled with love.

When people gather around the table, when stories are exchanged without judgment, when laughter echoes through the room, and when everyone feels that they belong.

That evening, the main lobby lounge of our condominium became more than just a shared space.

It became a witness to another beautiful family memory.

Every conversation, every shared smile, every emotional moment, and every expression of gratitude made the occasion more meaningful.

One day, the autumn decorations will be packed away. The seasons will change. The leaves outside the lounge windows will fall, and new ones will eventually grow.

But the memories of our first Thanksgiving gathering at our new residence will remain.

And that, to us, is what makes a place truly special.

Because home is not simply where we live.

Home is where love welcomes us, where family gathers, and where beautiful memories find a place to stay.

When the Celebration Ends, Gratitude Remains.

By eight in the evening, our gathering had come to an end.

The stories had been told, the food had been shared, and our family members were making their way home.

The lively conversations gradually faded, and the lounge slowly returned to its familiar quietness.

But something beautiful remained.

The warmth of the afternoon.

The laughter that had filled the room.

The emotional moments we would carry with us.

And the overwhelming feeling that we had been given another day worth remembering.

As we reflected on the celebration, we thought about the journey that had brought us here.

There was a time when the things we now enjoy were only hopes for the future.

There was a time when we could only imagine certain milestones and wonder whether we would ever reach them.

Now, we are living through some of those very moments.

And while there are still many dreams waiting to be fulfilled, we have learned that happiness is not something we should postpone until everything in life is perfect.

Sometimes, happiness is already here.

It is in the familiar voices around our table.

It is in the embrace of family.

It is in a safe place to come home to.

It is in the quiet realization that, despite everything we have endured, life has still given us so much to be thankful for.

And perhaps that is why this Thanksgiving felt so different.

It wasn't simply another celebration marked on the calendar.

It was a reminder that we are living through moments we once hoped and prayed would come.

A Thanksgiving Prayer From Our Hearts

As we close another beautiful Thanksgiving celebration, our hearts are filled with gratitude to God for His guidance, protection, and countless blessings.

Thank You for the gift of life, for the strength to overcome difficult seasons, and for the people who continue to walk beside us.

Thank You for the dreams that have come true and for the dreams that are still unfolding.

Thank You for the doors that opened, the lessons learned through closed ones, and the courage to keep believing even when the journey was uncertain.

And above all, thank You for family.

For the people who celebrate our victories, encourage us during difficult times, and remind us that we never have to walk through life alone.

May we never become so busy chasing the things we want that we forget to appreciate the things we already have.

May our home always be a place of kindness, laughter, understanding, and love.

And may every Thanksgiving remind us that life's greatest treasures are often found in the simplest moments we share with the people closest to our hearts.

Until Our Next Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving 2026 celebration has become another beautiful memory in our Canadian journey.

It was a gathering filled with love, laughter, achievements, heartfelt conversations, emotional moments, and a revelation that made the occasion even more unforgettable.

But more than anything, it reminded us of one important truth:

We may not have everything we dream of, but when we look around and see the people we love, remember the battles we have survived, and recognize the blessings we already hold, we realize how rich our lives truly are.

To our family in Canada, thank you for sharing this special celebration with us.

Thank you for the delicious food each family generously contributed, for the stories that brought us closer, and for the laughter and love that made our Thanksgiving gathering so meaningful.

Thank you for being part of another unforgettable chapter in our lives.

To Canada, thank you for being a place where we continue to grow, dream, and build a better future.

And to God, thank You for another year of blessings, answered prayers, lessons, and beautiful beginnings.

Someday, years from now, we may forget what dishes were served or what decorations adorned the lounge.

But we believe we will always remember how it felt to be together that evening.

Because at the end of our journey, it will not be the size of our home, the number of our achievements, or the possessions we have collected that matter most.

It will be the love we gave, the lives we touched, and the memories we created along the way.

And if there is one thing we wish to carry from this Thanksgiving into every season of life, it is this:

Never wait until life gives you everything before you become grateful. Sometimes, the life you are living today is the very life you once prayed for.

Happy Thanksgiving 2026 from our family to yours! 🍁❤️

With grateful hearts,

A Day of Wonder and Responsibility: What Party for the Planet 2026 Taught Us

HH

On April 25, 2026, we stood in the heart of Surrey Civic Plaza, surrounded by thousands of people who came together for one shared purpose: to celebrate and protect the only home we all have.

The energy of Party for the Planet was something you don’t just see, you feel. It was alive in the music, in the laughter of families, in the quiet curiosity of children learning about the world around them. For a moment, the busy rhythm of everyday life slowed down, and everything became about the Earth.

A Festival of Learning, Wonder, and Connection

One of the most unforgettable parts of the day was the hands-on learning.

We saw preserved animals up close, including raccoon that looked almost as if they could wake at any moment. There was something humbling about gently touching a real preserved coyote fur, running our fingers across its texture, and realizing this was once part of a living, breathing creature that roamed the wild.

A day of connection, discovery, and care for our planet

We held a turtle shell, felt its strength and history. We stood in awe before a fossilized shark jaw, a silent reminder of how long life has existed on this planet, long before us, and hopefully long after.

Those moments were quiet, but powerful. They didn’t just teach facts. They made us feel connected.

The Story of Water That Sustains Us

One exhibit stopped us in our tracks.

It told the story of where our drinking water comes from. Clean, fresh, and something we often take for granted.

We learned that our water flows from the protected mountain watersheds of Seymour Watershed, Capilano Watershed, and Coquitlam Watershed.

Learning where our water comes from and why every drop matters

And suddenly, it became personal.

These are not distant, unknown places. These are mountains we have seen, trails we have walked, views we have admired. Knowing that these landscapes quietly sustain our daily lives brought a deep sense of gratitude.

It made us realize that every drop of water carries a story. A journey from the mountains to our homes.

Small Actions, Big Impact

Throughout the plaza, booths shared simple yet powerful ways to reduce energy use at home.

Turn off unused lights. Choose energy-efficient appliances. Be mindful of water consumption.

At first, they sounded like small things. But standing there, surrounded by people who cared, those small actions felt bigger. They felt like choices that matter.

Because protecting the Earth isn’t always about grand gestures. Sometimes, it’s about what we do when no one is watching.

Music, Voices, and Shared Joy

The main stage was alive all day.

Music filled the air. Cultural performances brought color and movement. Voices carried messages of hope, unity, and responsibility.

We stood there, watching, listening, smiling.

Not just as spectators, but as part of something bigger.

A vibrant celebration of culture, music, and community on one stage

Strangers became familiar faces. Conversations started easily. We met people who shared stories, ideas, and even a few laughs. It reminded us how powerful community can be when it gathers for a meaningful cause.

A Market with Purpose

The market area was more than just a place to shop.

It was a space where creativity met purpose.

Exploring ideas, creativity, and small actions that help protect our planet

We explored booths filled with eco-friendly products, handmade goods, and thoughtful creations. Each item carried a story of sustainability and intention. We picked up a few souvenirs, not just as reminders of the day, but as small commitments to live a little more consciously.

A Day That Stays With You

As the day slowly came to an end, we didn’t rush to leave.

There was something about the atmosphere that made us want to stay just a little longer. Maybe it was the music still echoing in the background. Maybe it was the feeling that we had experienced something meaningful.

Or maybe it was the quiet realization that the Earth, in all its beauty and fragility, is not separate from us.

It is us.

That day at Party for the Planet was not just an event. It was a gentle reminder. A wake-up call wrapped in joy, learning, and connection.

And as we walked away from the plaza, carrying our small souvenirs and big reflections, there was a lingering feeling in our hearts.

A mix of gratitude, responsibility, and hope.

The kind that makes your eyes well up, not out of sadness, but because you suddenly understand how precious this world truly is.

And how much it deserves to be protected.

Holy Week 2026: A Hopeful Journey to the Heart of Hope

There are journeys that take you far, and there are journeys that take you deeper within. This Holy Week 2026, our trip to Hope became both.

We arrived on Good Friday, April 3, after a quiet two-hour drive from home. As we entered Hope, known as the gateway to the interior, the atmosphere immediately shifted. The town welcomed us with calmness, as if inviting us to slow down, reflect, and listen.

Hope is famously known as the chainsaw carving capital of Canada, and everywhere we looked, stories were carved into wood. Each sculpture felt alive, shaped with patience and passion. It was amazing to see how art can turn something ordinary into something deeply meaningful. It reminded me that life, too, is shaped by the hands of time, trials, and faith.

This small town also carries a piece of cinematic history as the filming location of Rambo: First Blood. Yet beyond its fame, what truly captivated us was its simplicity. No towering skyscrapers. No overwhelming noise. Just a peaceful town embraced by mountains, offering a breathtaking 360-degree view from downtown. It felt like standing in the center of God’s creation.

A Walk Through Reflection

On Black Saturday, April 4, we explored the heart of Hope on foot. Each step felt unhurried, intentional.

A quiet Holy Week in Hope, where mountains stand still and the heart finds peace in every step.

We walked through Hope Memorial Park, where the stillness of nature gently quieted our thoughts. From there, we passed by the Friendship Garden, a Japanese-inspired space that radiated peace and harmony. It was a place where silence spoke louder than words.

We visited Hope Catholic Church for a moment of reflection. It felt sacred and still. It was a pause our hearts needed, a chance to reconnect, and to remember the true meaning of Holy Week.

Along the mighty Fraser, we found stories carved in wood, written in history, and reflected in moments we’ll always treasure.

Our walk led us to Fort Hope National Historic Site of Canada, resting quietly along the Fraser River and overlooking Greenwood Island. Standing there, I felt the weight of history and the flow of time, just like the river that never stops moving. It reminded me that life continues, but we must choose how we live it.

Joy in Simple Moments

That afternoon, we drove to Kawkawa Lake, just minutes from town. The scene was full of life. Families gathered for picnics, children laughed and played, and the lake reflected the surrounding mountains like a perfect mirror.

Kawkawa Lake, where still waters, laughter, and simple joys made the day quietly unforgettable.

People enjoyed kayaking, stand-up paddling, boating, jet skiing, and fishing. Yet even with all the activity, there was a sense of peace. It was a reminder that joy often lives in simple, shared moments.

A Journey Toward Renewal

On Easter Sunday, we continued our journey home, but not without one last stop. We hiked to Flood Falls.

The trail took us almost an hour to complete, both ways. It was a good cardio exercise, but more than that, it was a walk toward renewal. As we reached the falls, the sound of rushing water filled the air, washing away stress and worry.

Beneath the flowing falls, we paused, felt renewed, and carried a quiet peace within us.

We have always loved waterfalls. There is something about them that speaks to the soul. The constant flow, the strength, the beauty. It reminds us to keep moving forward, to trust the journey, and to keep exploring the places where we feel most alive.

A Holy Week to Remember

Hope, British Columbia, gave us more than a weekend escape. It gave us a space for self-renewal, a spiritual retreat, and a deeper appreciation of God’s wonderful creation.

In the quiet streets, in the carved wood, in the flowing river, and in the falling water, we found something we often miss in our busy lives. Peace. Gratitude. Presence.

This Holy Week was not just about traveling to a place. It was about returning to what truly matters.

And sometimes, all it takes is a small town named Hope to remind us of that.

Del Make it Happen.

Celebrating Chinese New Year 2026: A Season of Renewal, Strength, and Forward Movement

Chinese New Year 2026 welcomes the Year of the Horse.

Just days before the celebration, I returned to Canada after a beautiful three-week vacation in my home country, the Philippines. My heart was still full from family embraces, Filipino meals, laughter, and the warmth of home. Then I stepped back into the cool winter air of British Columbia, transitioning into another meaningful celebration, the Lunar New Year.

Over the years, I have intentionally made time to celebrate the Lunar New Year and to contemplate its significance in my life. It has become more than a cultural event. It is a sacred pause. A reset. A reminder that life moves in cycles and every year gives us another opportunity to grow.

Celebrating in Vancouver

I have been blessed to witness the Vancouver Lunar New Year Parade in 2023 and 2024, and the Vancouver Lantern Festival in 2025.

Each celebration leaves a deep imprint on my soul.

I always enjoy:

  • The powerful lion and dragon dances
  • The vibrant red and gold decorations
  • The colorful cultural performances
  • The rhythmic drumbeats
  • The crackle of firecrackers

The sound of the drums feels like a heartbeat. Strong. Alive. Determined. It reminds me that every new year carries energy and momentum.

And 2026 carries the powerful energy of the Horse.

Year of the Horse: Energy, Freedom, and Movement

The Horse in Chinese zodiac symbolizes speed, passion, independence, and progress. People born in Horse years are known for their dynamic energy, adventurous spirit, and drive to move forward.

The Horse does not stand still. It runs toward horizons. It seeks freedom and new opportunities.

This makes me reflect deeply as someone born in 1985, the Year of the Ox.

The Ox and the Horse: What Does It Mean for Me?

The Ox represents diligence, reliability, endurance, and steady strength. Ox people are patient builders. We do not rush. We commit. We carry responsibility with discipline and quiet determination.

In Chinese zodiac compatibility, the Ox and the Horse are very different energies.

  • The Ox moves steadily and carefully.
  • The Horse moves quickly and boldly.
  • The Ox values structure and stability.
  • The Horse values freedom and momentum.

Some traditions say they can clash because of their opposite temperaments. But I see it differently. I see balance.

The Year of the Horse challenges the Ox in me to:

  • Step outside routine
  • Move with more courage
  • Embrace change instead of overthinking it
  • Take action faster

At the same time, my Ox energy reminds me:

  • Stay grounded
  • Build sustainably
  • Do not rush blindly
  • Finish what you start

This combination can be powerful. The steady strength of the Ox guided by the forward momentum of the Horse can create meaningful progress.

As a Virgo in Western astrology, I also carry traits of discipline, precision, and continuous improvement. Virgo refines. The Ox perseveres. The Horse accelerates.

2026 feels like a year to move forward with intention, not hesitation.

The Sweet Symbolism of Tikoy

No Lunar New Year celebration is complete without Tikoy.

In the Philippines, we call it Tikoy, a brown glutinous sticky rice cake known in Chinese culture as Nian Gao.

Tikoy symbolizes:

  • Sweetness for the coming year
  • Unity and family togetherness
  • Prosperity and continuous growth

Its sticky texture represents bonds that hold families together. Its sweetness reflects hopes for harmonious relationships. Its upward meaning signifies rising success year after year.

Every bite feels intentional. It is more than food. It is tradition. It is hope.

Why Lunar New Year Matters to Me

These ancient Chinese beliefs and rituals give my life meaning and energy. They connect me to heritage, culture, and reflection. They remind me that renewal is always available.

After returning from the Philippines, Lunar New Year became my emotional bridge. From rest to rebuilding. From vacation mode to purpose mode.

Each year, I ask myself:

  • What must I let go of?
  • What must I strengthen?
  • What must I pursue fearlessly?

The Horse year whispers, run forward.

The Ox within me responds, build wisely.

My Virgo mind adds, improve consistently.

Together, they shape how I step into 2026.

A Year to Move with Strength and Courage

Chinese New Year 2026 is not just about decorations, zodiac animals, or festive food.

It is about momentum.

It is about combining discipline with courage.

It is about steady strength meeting courageous movement.

As an Ox entering the Year of the Horse, I see opportunity. Not conflict.

This is the year to move forward without losing stability.

To run without forgetting where I came from.

To act with courage while staying grounded in values.

May this year be sweet like Tikoy.

May it be steady like the Ox.

May it be bold like the Horse.

Gong Xi Fa Cai.

And as I always remind myself, make it happen.

A Surprise Homecoming: Reuniting With My Family in the Philippines

There are moments in life when time seems to pause and the heart quietly whispers, you are exactly where you are meant to be. My recent journey back to the Philippines was one of those moments. After four years of living in Canada, working hard, adjusting to a new life, and building new dreams, I finally returned to my home country. What began as a simple vacation became a deeply emotional homecoming filled with love, faith, and gratitude.

On January 18, 2026, I left Vancouver with a heart full of anticipation. After a long journey across the Pacific, I arrived in Manila early in the morning of January 20. Coincidentally, it was the Feast of San Sebastian, the patron saint of our hometown. It felt like a special blessing, as if my journey home was being welcomed with grace.

At the airport, my sister and brother in law were waiting for me. Seeing their familiar faces after so many years brought tears to my eyes. I stayed with them for three days, slowly absorbing the reality that I was finally back in the Philippines. It was a surprise visit after four years of living in Canada, and my family could hardly believe it. Their joyful reactions warmed my heart, and it felt wonderful to share gifts I had brought from Canada as small tokens of love.

During those first few days, I reunited with my sisters and their families. My nephews and my only niece had grown up so much since the last time I saw them. Time moves quickly, especially when distance separates us. Over meals and long conversations, we shared stories, laughter, and memories. Those moments reminded me that family is not only where we come from but also where our hearts always return.

On January 23, I flew from Manila to my hometown, about an hour away. That short flight felt long because I knew my parents were waiting at the end of it, even though they had no idea I was coming. When I finally saw them, emotions overwhelmed me. I hugged and kissed them tightly, grateful beyond words. Despite our regular video calls, nothing compares to being physically present with the people who raised you. Their surprise quickly turned into joy, and I was happy to give them gifts from Canada as a symbol of this my love and appreciation.

The following day, January 24, our village celebrated the Feast of Sto. Niño. It was a joyful gathering filled with faith and community. I was able to see many relatives and neighbors again, people who had been part of my life since childhood. Being there reminded me how deeply rooted our traditions and faith are in our everyday lives.

Another special moment came on January 25 during the 8th founding anniversary of the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in our village. I witnessed something that filled me with pride and gratitude. My parents received a plaque of recognition for their service and support to the parish since 2012, when it first started as a mission station. Watching them stand there and be honored for their dedication and faith was truly inspiring. It reminded me of the values they instilled in us such as service, humility, and devotion.

As the days passed, more family members arrived. On January 30, my brother, sister, and their families traveled from Manila to our hometown. Our house became lively again with laughter, conversations, and shared meals. On February 1, we happily celebrated my sister’s birthday. For the first time since 2019, we were complete as a family. That moment alone was worth the long journey.

During my stay, I also visited familiar places around our hometown, places I had known since childhood. Walking through those streets brought back many memories of simpler days. One moment that stood out was seeing my parents’ commercial building fully completed. I had witnessed its construction before leaving for Canada in 2022, and now it stood finished and ready to serve the community. Seeing it completed filled me with pride and happiness for my parents.

Of course, no visit home would be complete without enjoying the beauty of nature. We spent time swimming at the beach in a nearby province, something I have always loved since I was young. The sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, and the laughter of family made it an unforgettable experience.

During those two weeks, our home was filled with stories, laughter, and heartfelt conversations. I shared about life in Canada and reassured them that everything was going well. At the same time, I listened to their stories and prayed that they would continue to live in good health and happiness. Even after living abroad, my heart still longs for the warmth of home.

On February 7, it was time to leave our hometown and return to Manila. Saying goodbye to my parents after two weeks together was deeply emotional. Leaving them again reminded me how precious every moment with family truly is.

The day before my flight back to Canada, my sister and I visited the church of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila. It was a rainy Sunday, yet we endured the weather to attend mass. Standing there in prayer, surrounded by countless devotees, felt incredibly meaningful. It was a moment of gratitude and divine blessing before returning to my life in Canada.

Finally, after three unforgettable weeks, it was time to go back. On February 9, 2026, I left the Philippines with a heavy heart. I did not know when I would see my family again, but I felt grateful that my long held wish had finally come true to be with them, even for a short time.

Later that same afternoon, I arrived in Vancouver and finally reached home. My heart was full. I carried with me countless stories, precious memories, and a renewed appreciation for family, faith, and home.

Sometimes life takes us far away from where we started. But no matter how far we travel, the place we call home will always remain in our hearts. My journey back to the Philippines reminded me that while Canada is now part of my life and dreams, my roots will always lead me back to the love of my family and the place that shaped who I am today.
