Holy Week 2017: Leading The Way

Holy Week is a tradition that unites generations of devoted Christians, from Christian ancestors like Peter to the present descendant, His Holiness Pope Francis. It's a time when Christians worldwide come together to celebrate Christ's passion, death, and resurrection, who promised humanity's salvation through the Holy Cross, where he suffered and died and became a symbol of our Christian faith.

We have a unique and rich tradition of commemorating the Holy Week in the Philippines. It's all about Christ, the center of our faith. Our devotion is directed to Him as he saved us from sins. Like most Filipinos, we honor Christ in many ways. Some would show their faith in deeper self-infliction, similar to the suffering of Christ. Others would celebrate at home in a deeper self-reflection and meditation. These unique traditions, deeply rooted in our culture, are ways of showing piety and devotion to Christ, to be passed on to the next generations of faithful Christians.

Good Friday at Manila Cathedral

Good Friday symbolizes our suffering, a poignant reflection of Christ's passion on the cross. Christians carry our crosses and strive to overcome life's challenges. Our lives gain profound meaning as we remember the sufferings we shared with Christ at the center of our lives. Our savior will always be Christ, our guiding light, no matter what obstacles we face; the light of the universe and the light of all.

The negativity of the world reflects individual thoughts toward humanity. Conflicts and wars resulting in the destruction of life are significant sources of stress and devastated self. Inhumane treatment of others results from selfishness and greed. The world has never been peaceful, even at the early age of time, but the greatest gift we can offer to the world is a little peace inside our hearts and souls.

We give out peace, and in return, we receive peace of mind. It's a powerful reminder that the holy week is about transcending the personal sufferings we have created. Our troubled minds can manifest into the sickness of our soul and physical body. But to escape from this internal turmoil, we must understand the cause and the path to peace.

On this Holy week
, we hit the negativity that haunts us, even those closest to us. We repel the dark light and replace it with pure light from the Divine. People will poke us for our misdeeds and be our guide, leading us to Jesus, our most significant source of strength at the lowest moment in time. We take the path we have chosen, and we have to understand and accept the Divine power, love, and light bestowed on us.

The Circle of Life: Turning Back Time

Time travel is impossible in a world that is preoccupied with the present and future living. What life may appear in ten or fifteen years or beyond? What plan will I execute today that will change the compass of life? Clueless of what's going on enables one to reminisce and daydream forward. Going back or beyond the present time gives a glimpse of a meaningful journey of existence. When life's ups and downs knock you out, it is not a punitive reaction but to awaken from a deep slumber of an impossible dream or maybe a worst nightmare. Reflecting on the past and future is a powerful tool for personal growth and understanding.

A 'big bang' once changed my life like a poke in the head. That was intense and painful beyond the physical level- a different spiritual awakening ever! I couldn't resist, but to follow the inner compass -- a trusted barometer of life's goal and a future self. As I was saved from the fiery place, it was a significant redirection, like an instant decision without a doubt. The 'big bang' that saved me, no matter how painful it has been, may also be the 'big bang' that will help transform others in their own ways; inspiring them to make wise decisions without guilt and take bold actions that are mighty. No matter what life hits us, it always depends on how we react and accept that we are vulnerable to untoward decisions resulting from faulty thoughts.

Going back in time, one realizes one's potential and lives his most extraordinary life because of the right choices and no blockages. As smooth as it flows, life has moved as fast and furious as there's no way of turning back. It was the best way of reaching ahead as fast as possible -- no distractions and defying limitations. Reaching the peak has some valleys that are tricky to navigate. Lost along the way may be challenging, but regaining oneself gave a hard lesson not really to follow a 'fast but sure' policy, but one's own pace of living.

Back in the days when life seemed rough, it gave me the courage to become braver and live in the present time. This is the moment in time that is more realistic, providing less stress than dwelling on the past and a future dream that is overwhelming. As I turn back time, it creates either wonderful or sorrowful memories that may be carried over merit to the present and the future. The past may be ignored. However, it could be the key to understanding the present reality. Having been somewhere doesn't mean the end of further exploration of what more it has to offer. One has to come back numerous times and enjoy a different perspective of living, learning from each experience.

The circle of life is a fantastic journey of giving in and giving up. Giving in to right thinking and decisions and giving up to unwanted thoughts and impulsive actions. By returning time, I recall the good and the bad days where I learned and persevered. Keeping the challenge helps to correct and improve the knots; when untangled, it becomes a linear direction one has to go through. Reliving memories creates a nostalgic experience; in those times, we learn to grow and become better than ever. The circle of life is terrific, and the experience of turning back time is meaningful and blissful not only in the present but for a lifetime.

Heart's Desire: Living A Humanitarian Life

This day marks the beginning of a new journey to life, the start of a soulful experience of a higher self beyond the physical realm of existence. This day also marks the re-discovery of the true self beyond ego and lower emotions. When the lost soul wanders, it will find its place to regain its self and follow the guiding light, a journey that holds the transformative power of self-discovery.

Although the lost chapters may be out of sight, those darkest moments find a way to escape, leading to a brighter and more fulfilling journey. Through deeper self-reflection, one has to find the right path and live with one's soul purpose—the so-called dharma, which is the inherent nature of an individual, the duty or righteous path one must follow in life.

The darkest moments in life are the unheard hopes and aspirations, the endless sufferings, and the blockages to living a better life. Being redirected down a long tunnel is to experience the reality of the negative side of the physical world—to experience not just the good but also the unfavorable things beyond personal control.

To be human is to experience suffering. Learn from it and continue to seek the answer; find the truth and be the guiding light to those who wander. When you've been there, it will be easy to relate to the suffering one is dealing with, and you will become a master of your life—your thoughts and emotions.

Those years when I started to discover another dimension of life were a great spiritual experience and a time of personal transformation. It wasn't easy at the beginning. You have to undergo self-restraint and a sense of control over thoughts and emotions. It was only then that lower emotions were defeated through the enlightenment of the nature of man's suffering—endless suffering.

The initiation into the path brought significant change not only to self but also to the greater world. Being called to serve humanity and the world revealed the spiritual powers vested in me, and it became a way of life, a source of profound fulfillment and inspiration.

Understanding the nature of humanity requires certain values one must learn to live. It was then that I learned to unleash the innate love and compassion that is the core of our being. I couldn't have given it to people without a deeper understanding and love of myself. I have loved myself and given it away, fostering a deep sense of empathy and connection with others.

Truly, humanitarian service is the most significant expression of love and compassion. To regain me is to continue the lost journey. It will be challenging, but it will be rewarding.

Following Our Heart's Desire serves as a guide to living one's purpose. For me, service to humanity through education and personal development is the path—the sole purpose to live and master not only today but for a lifetime.

Evolution of The Mind: Path Towards Right Consciousness

I was in my mid-20s when I decided to follow a different path of human consciousness. It's not an ordinary life where freedom is absolute, but it's a life full of challenges and sacrifices. At first, it was not easy until I discovered my capabilities and unique qualities that are beyond the limits.

I struggled, endured the pain, and persevered through the uncertainties that came my way. During those times, I pondered the meaning of my existence and my role in service to humanity and the world.

I am blessed with being born into a loving and supportive family. My parents raised us well and were able to send us to a good school to get the proper education that eventually gave us a comfortable life. My parents valued their children's education more than what they have accomplished. For them, education is an opportunity to succeed in life; although it may not be a guarantee, they still push us to get the education we want.

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing and became a registered nurse. Back then, my family fully supported me for what I would become -- to live my life as a nurse. I would have become a bedside nurse abroad and lived more comfortably like other Filipino nurses enjoying the greener pasture. But those were just a missed opportunity and a fantasy in my vivid imagination. I did not become a nurse, and I remain in my country. It was a failure since the goal was not met, and it diverted my attention to other things that could satisfy my senses and provoke my creative imagination. I started to think and ask questions about the future. What do I want? What will I become?  I needed a rescue out of the blue. Clueless about the future, I couldn't think but act like a happy-go-lucky; no destination ... nothing to see. It was dark, and I needed a guiding light.

The mid-20s is when I started to rewire my inner dialogue. Connecting the missing link helped me to regain my life for the greater opportunity. That was the time I entered an ashram. A school of initiation for higher consciousness. I developed some intelligence not attained by ordinary people who were not devoted to the spiritual journey. In the ashram, I learned to become a trainer and a public speaker. I decided to improve my intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, which led to a magical journey -- I couldn't believe the things that I could do. I envision being the best version of myself, upgrading my skills, and learning to decipher reality from obsolete beliefs. The learning was truly indispensable, and it made me who I am today- renewed and transformed.

To evolve in consciousness is to change self-limiting beliefs and habits that don't give meaning to higher existence -- universal service through spirituality. I meditated, chanted, and used a special mantra to achieve a sense of contentment and bliss. It changed my personality, and I reached a certain level of maturity through service. Then, I learned to appreciate the tagline "Live Your Greatest Life." Living a good life was just enough, but living one's life to the fullest was more meaningful and substantial- a spiritual bliss. Then, going beyond esoteric practice is "Serving Humanity and The World." It was the ultimate realization and fulfillment of my goals. I discovered to unleash my hidden potential and increase my self-worth. I became firm with my philosophies and elevated my personality to connect with stronger souls. If I didn't, then I wouldn't survive from the start. My inner compass would have directed me towards the path.

I traveled and lived in India for over a year and contacted different groups. I became one with the people. I dressed up and started to sound like them, too. I met various groups, from elite families and well-known personalities down to the grassroots level of society. The experience gave me serenity and a sense of purpose. I gained wisdom from Eastern philosophies with an integration of Western practicality, contributing to my confidence in exoteric teachings. In India, I taught different subjects that are primarily of spiritual origin. It was very fulfilling and memorable. My greatest achievement would have been the construction of the "Third Eye," which is spiritually guided. It was then I felt the Divine guidance that intervened in my being.

Feeling empowered, I embarked on a journey of service to humanity, doing extraordinary things. My path may not have been conventional, but the enlightenment I gained provided a profound perspective on the kind of life one should lead. Service to humanity, I realized, is the accurate measure of our existence. It's about improving lives and helping people discover a brighter meaning for their 'dharma' or soul purpose. This realization filled me with a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment, inspiring me to continue.

It was in India that I became a master of my own thinking. I challenge myself based on my choices and persuade others that what they believe is not aligned with the universal truth revealed in the ashram.

\

How could I thrive after years of service when I started to bring back my old self? I strive to become better, yet couldn't see the light. I challenged myself even more, and then I realized that service to humanity is everywhere, in the community where we live or in a place where lives have brought us. Wherever we go is the place to leave a legacy. Maybe unknown to many, but popular to those whom we have touched lives. Our own 'dharma' is the legacy that is inherent to us. We may be wrong with our choices sometimes, but we can always choose to regain ourselves, become wiser, and live a better life. We have been ridiculed, but our principles could help us to hit our target. Sometimes we no longer tune in to lower vibrations, yet we strive to live an extraordinary life like the old days -- deeper soul connection.

As everything around me continues to change, I find myself still evolving, still uncertain about the future. But with the integration of Divine energies and the continuous development of my being, I am filled with a sense of purpose and eagerness for personal growth. I am certain that with this evolution, nothing can be greater than our renewed selves. We continue to develop, keeping the spark alive to illuminate others and inspire them on their own journeys of self-discovery.

Our evolution is a lifelong journey, and there will come a time when we need to look back and assess our old selves. In those moments of self-reflection, we can confidently say, 'I did my best, and now the path I am on is the path towards the right consciousness. It's not about belonging to a select group, but about embracing a universal consciousness that everyone deserves.' This realization should inspire us to continue our journey of self-discovery and growth, always striving to be the best version of ourselves.

Pasinaya 2017: Arts for Peace

The preservation and restoration of Philippine Arts and Culture are not just significant causes, but also urgent responsibilities for Filipino artists and nationalists. Our cultural identity is at risk as we gradually adopt a Western lifestyle. Our entertainment, from music to dances, is becoming Westernized, leading to a loss of our Filipino heart. It's crucial to act now, before our identity fades into history.

The Pasinaya Festival 2017, the largest multi-arts festival, has been a beacon of hope in our mission to regain Filipino arts and culture in all genres. Over the years, it has not just attracted followers and viewers, but also successfully showcased the beauty of our culture. Through this initiative, we are reviving the glory days of the past in our modern time. It brings a sense of pride and hope, and even a past life regression to some extent. It's a vivid imagination of the refined and beautiful days of the past.

This year's theme is about bringing peace through arts and culture. Filipinos pull the strings that connect us as one nation when we have national peace issues due to political and cultural divisions and beliefs. Our dear brothers, who may have different philosophical and political views, may have caused damage to our cultural identity as they may not have helped our government preserve culture and arts. We have been divided through the years and struggle to fight for a peaceful nation of firm yet gentle people. This year's theme, "Arts for Peace, " symbolizes unity through diversity. We may have different voices, faiths, and religions, yet we can become one nation through arts and culture. Filipino artists and viewers from around the country and worldwide convene together to witness and celebrate our national identity. We are Filipino and proud to say  I Am Filipino in words, deeds, and thoughts.

The Pasinaya 2013 was a previous experience in which Filipino-Chinese culture was embraced. It taught us that we can live in harmony and camaraderie by sharing our culture, no matter how different. We can appreciate and embrace it as part of our culture and tradition. This year, 2017, is no different from previous Pasinaya events. The message is always clear: We can not move forward if we fail to deeply understand our national identity through arts, culture, and heritage. This understanding is not just essential but also enlightening and inspiring.

I advocate for our country's arts, Culture, and heritage preservation, and we deserve a national identity that is truly Filipino. Remember our culture and heritage as we work together for peace and progress. This will be passed on to the next generation of heroic Filipinos. The future generation is braver and more decisive. A citizen who will continue to raise the voice to the world that we are One Filipino-- today and forever.

Good Governance Towards A Better Philippines

Our beloved nation, the Philippines, has not only been the focus of controversies since the beginning of Duterte's presidency, but these negative events have also catapulted us onto the global stage, making us newsmakers worldwide.

The international community has condemned our president's undiplomatic approach to governance and communications. We may enjoy the attention gained, but we may also suffer the consequences of our president's madness and impatience with solving the social problems of our time: poverty, corruption, crimes...

What is wrong with our President's government policies? Is he just being misunderstood, or is he confused and incapable of leading a nation of more than a hundred million? How could our President exercise good governance by being undiplomatic, irrational, and showing violent social behavior?

PROBLEM IN COMMUNICATION

Our people, the Filipino people, deserve and require clear, unambiguous, and serious communication, especially from the president, whose messages and major pronouncements carry significant weight. The president's words to the Filipino people must be precise and not open to multiple interpretations from his communications team.

Since the beginning of his presidency, we have observed some vague statements later interpreted by his secretaries to defend him from further embarrassment. There's a circus in communication, and that has caused confusion among the Filipino people. Is there something wrong with the president's way of communication?

The Filipino people deserve clearer communication from our leaders. Chaos due to misunderstanding happens when we play with words we don't mean. We can decipher the truth from a false statement. We do not only hear, but instead, we listen and try to understand every single word coming from the most powerful man in our land.

Great power bestowed on our president comes with greater responsibility to his people. He is responsible for his words, thoughts, and emotions. What is happening to our society now is miscommunication among our government leaders, especially the president.

We are now suffering from a significant mistake in communication. For instance, the president has been clear from the beginning that the war on drugs will be bloody. We have been hearing statements like  "I will kill you" and non-stop cursing, which is highly unacceptable and unbecoming of a statesman.

The President had planted a negative seed of thought in his men -- to the law enforcers on his war on drugs. His thought forms suggest that extrajudicial killing is a must to eradicate crimes due to illegal drug use and trading. He even admitted that he had killed alleged criminals by shooting to show to the policemen that if he can do it, why can't they.

The president's communication style has not only influenced the minds of our law enforcers but has also directly impacted our lives. The negative seed of thought he has planted has led to the corruption of our law enforcement, resulting in extrajudicial killings and other unfortunate events that we now witness in our country.

The war on drugs accompanied by due process is good. However, abuses like extrajudicial killing are not tolerable. We can't tolerate a lawless society, which will never lead to a peaceful country we want to achieve.

PROBLEM IN CORRUPTION

Corruption is a never-ending political and social problem that our country has been facing. It is like a cancer of our society, and it has never been eradicated, just like our problem with illegal drugs and criminality. The president has to focus on solving the root cause of our societal cancer and set an example of a leader who is not only in words but also in deeds and thoughts. He should not corrupt the minds of his people. Corruption is not only in the form of money but also in our moral, emotional, and spiritual beliefs.

The President has challenged our church leaders who consistently fight for injustices and immorality in our society. He has cursed our priests, bishops, and even the Pope. The President corrupted our principles when he embraced China against our territorial rights in the West Philippine Sea. The President has corrupted our good relationship with our long-time ally, the United States. The President has corrupted the minds of the Filipino people with his stand on morality and the justice system.

VALUES EDUCATION, MORAL RECOVERY, AND SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION

We have taught our children the correct values in school. However, this approach must be strengthened, and the family must actively participate. Values education enhances one's character and personality. If we can raise well-disciplined and responsible citizens, we can have a better world.

We can envision a society free from conflicts and wars. For years, we have been at war, and that is a war on poverty, crimes, and now the war on drugs, which is not the ultimate root cause of our social problem. We have to eliminate poverty consciousness and replace it with an abundance mindset. We will tire of fighting our social problems if we do not return to the basics. What is really happening within the family? What about our upbringing? Whatever happened to the teachings of our parents and of the church?

GOOD GOVERNANCE IS FOR ALL

It's about time to consider what is most important. According to Senator Angara, good governance also means good politics. Since we see something wrong with our leaders' political stance and strategies, we have not yet achieved good governance. It is for everyone, not just for our leaders. Even ordinary citizens have to contribute to good governance.

For years, we have been fighting for freedom of expression, and today's generation is empowered to speak up for truth backed up by good values and character. We deserve a better Philippines and should not wait for our leaders. We can also do it! As we work together for peace and progress, we can leave a good legacy for the next generation, and they will enjoy the just and clean society they deserve.

Celebrating Chinese New Year 2017: An Auspicious Celebration

For centuries, Chinese immigrants from mainland China have established closer ties with the Filipinos. Since then, we have mutually embraced religious traditions and appreciated the rich culture and heritage that remains solid and lasting. Chinese merchants in the Philippines existed during the early years of civilization and became great trading partners, contributing to a robust economy and fortifying stronger relationships.

Chinese people who have chosen to live and work in the Philippines were accepted by most Filipinos, and they have greatly influenced our culture and way of living.

Embracing Chinese culture has made a significant impact on our lives. Their beliefs, wisdom, and character are worth emulating. Chinese people have taught us how to live based on their life principles from the teachings of their religions. Buddhism, brought to China, became a foundation of wisdom, humility, and compassion. These traits, which embody Buddhist philosophy, are the same guiding principles on how to live a meaningful and fulfilling life, a better life worth living.

Celebrating the Chinese New Year 2013 was a memorable experience in Binondo, Manila. Known as the oldest Chinatown in the world, it has shown great transformation and preservation of Chinese-Filipino culture. The old and preserved houses and commercial buildings symbolize love and respect for its culture and heritage. For years, Manila Chinatown has given positive energy and vibrance to visitors and traders, and they hold on to their beliefs passed on from generation to generation.

The Graceful Dragon and Lion Dance

Good luck and prosperity are attributed to the colorful dance presentation where dancers have to mimic the movement of a lion and a dragon, a mythical creature. Both symbolize strength, wisdom, and power in Chinese ideology. These dances are more prevalent during the Chinese New Year and in various Chinese cultural, religious, and political events. It is also a belief that these creatures ward off evil spirits and bring luck and fortune in business and life. Dancing graciously in the form of Chinese martial arts is a skill and has entertained visitors for its graciousness.

The lighting of firecrackers and fireworks

Lion dance with firecrackers lighting up on the street makes a joyous and wonderful celebration. During New Year's Eve, the street lights up with colorful fireworks and fireworks, creating noise that is believed to drive away bad luck and attract prosperity. The noise that is irritating some is the same that brings wealth to believers in the new year. This kind of activity initially enjoyed by the Chinese was also adopted by Filipinos and the world — such a significant influence they had.

Ang Pao is a symbol of wealth and abundance

On the busy street is a parade of generous people giving away 'ang pao' to the visitors. These small red envelopes with money on them give luck to the receiver. Financial abundance is significant to the Chinese; a year filled with economic prosperity is a blessing from God. Being poor is a mental disease, and an abundance mindset is the key to success  a belief that brings wealth into our lives.

Chinese people hold many beliefs for personal, career, business, and life in general. Some ideas include a collection of round-shaped fruits for never-ending prosperity. Tikoy, a gelatinous delicacy, is very popular and symbolizes sweetness and a closer relationship with the family. Restaurants offering authentic Chinese foods, including noodles, dumplings, and other treats, are essential for good luck. What else is on the list? Years of Filipino-Chinese partnership have influenced feng shui for prosperity and Chinese martial arts.

In Chinese astrology, the year of the fire rooster will bring positivity to everyone. A hopeful year starts with a positive mindset and clearing off negative past experiences that prevent us from moving forward.

Faith is essential for success; all the symbolism can bring prosperity if accompanied by hard work and perseverance.

The Filipino and Chinese friendship will remain strong in years to come as we build trusting relationships based on camaraderie and warm acceptance, regardless of one's cultural upbringing and philosophical beliefs.

What Can We Learn From President Donald Trump's Inaugural Speech

The day Donald Trump was sworn in, a momentous event unfolded before millions of Americans and viewers worldwide. This marked the beginning of a new era, a leadership that will not just impact Americans, but reverberate across the entire universe.

January 20, 2017, stands as a significant milestone in the history of the United States and the world. It's the day when a non-political figure assumed the reins of the most powerful nation on earth. What could be his deepest intentions for seeking this powerful position? What solutions could he be contemplating for the world's most pressing issues? The implications of Trump's presidency on global relations are profound and worth pondering.

As a Filipino, I found myself awake past midnight, eagerly watching the live telecast of Donald Trump's inauguration in Washington, DC, USA. Our interest in American politics is not just a casual observance; it's deeply rooted in our culture. As a former colony of the USA, we've inherited many aspects of their culture that have made us globally competitive and competent.

After Donald Trump took his oath of office as the 45th President of the United States, I was enthralled by his inaugural speech for the American people and a Filipino like me. I haven't heard full speeches before, and all I have listened to is negative stories and news about him brought by the power of the media and some well-known personalities who may be against him. However, upon hearing his speech on a live telecast, I was impressed and could feel the joyous spirit in his nature. His message was clear, concise, and full of optimistic hopes and dreams for Americans. His statement on the "American first" policy was so nationalistic, given the economic policies and principles of the previous administrations.

Like any nation, every country must strive to protect and defend its interests before meddling in international affairs. The United States, as the most powerful nation, has been consistent on its political and economic agenda with all its trading partners and global allies, including my country, the Philippines. Our very own President, Rodrigo Duterte, has been very vocal in his insights regarding the presence of the Americans in our land and whether they are really a faithful ally or just there to advance their own interests.

"What truly matters is not what party controls our government but that this government is controlled by the people."

Trump would want to bring back real power to his people. When other countries like the Philippines gained wealth from the Business process outsourcing industry, that could soon be brought back to the minds and hearts of the Americans. It's an act of patriotism considering the thousands of jobs lost to his people who are also struggling for a better living. Though it will surely harm Filipinos in the BPO industry, we Filipinos will remain resilient even if we lose it to the Americans. They own it, and we're grateful to have been allowed to serve them, even temporarily.

"We are one nation, and their pain is our pain, their dreams are our dreams, we share one nation, one home, and one glorious destiny."

Trump believes in his own people and shares common goals and dreams. A leader who shows trust and confidence that his people can make it no matter what happens. A leader who offers his own vision for the future of his country. A visionary leader is very rare, but we may have seen how strategic he is even on personal business matters. He is a man who is fortunate to gain wealth with all his powers and the greater power he believes in. He assured unity and solidarity when he started to see where the division was coming from in his country. This trait will be instilled in the minds of our leaders in the Philippines -- not to cause division, but unity and camaraderie for all. I must believe that a great leader is an excellent protector of the interest of the ordinary people and not just the interest of elitists and people of the highest stature.

"Do not allow anyone to tell you it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart, fight, and spirit of America. We will not fail; our country will thrive and prosper again."

When all seems to fail, nothing beats the power of positivity, that everything can be accomplished and achieved no matter how difficult it seems to be. When we are being challenged by our plans and decisions, we can never go wrong if it is within our moral conscience that is divinely inspired. Like us Filipinos, we always aspire to be excellent in our dealings and become world-class citizens. We aspire to positively impact this world and be recognized as one of the world's best people. We can't allow anyone to destroy or hinder who we are and what we may become. With confidence, we allow positivity to flourish in our soul, making us 'titanium' and genuinely unbreakable. We are what we think and believe in ourselves when nobody else is.

"Your courage, goodness, and love will forever guide us along the way."

Like a compass, it shows us the right direction. Just like the virtue of compassion and goodwill, it can guide and direct us towards the right path -- a blissful life. Courage is the fuel that drives us to excel. When we are weak, there's an absence of willpower; regaining it is a challenge. Filipinos must learn to build solid political power like the United States. Through the years, we have seen weak leaders afraid of implementing social and political changes; until recently, we have elected a leader with solid willpower whom others compare to Trump in political stance and behavior. Although willpower is a must-have virtue a leader must possess, it must be taken responsibly. With the right mindset, a big open heart, and the will-to-good principle, we can always go right and soar above and beyond.

The Dalai Lama on What Matters Most

Image from: https://goo.gl/images/yn5RG5
The world we live in today may be full of chaos, suffering never-ending conflicts, and global problems that are hard to solve. We live in this world as an effect or consequence of past life struggles and miseries carried out until the present. The "Law of Karma," which originated in Buddhist philosophy, applies this scenario of the rebirth or a cycle of violence, intolerance, war, and suffering that we see and experience in our time.

What could have happened in the past that causes humanity to continue to suffer today? Why does humanity experience the ill effects of wars brought by differences in beliefs? What shall society do to stop the cycle of suffering for the benefit of the next generation? These are some questions on the nature of humanity and the world and how Buddhism, with its profound insights, plays a significant role in addressing these modern global issues.

Buddhism is not just a religion but is considered the science of mind. It is philosophical and tries to answer even the most challenging questions about life, man's nature, and the reason for existence. The Dalai Lama, known as the spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhists, is a living Buddha of compassion. We can learn from his philosophy and insights about what truly matters in our existence—the role we need to play for a better life and world.

Noriyuki Ueda, a Japanese anthropologist, would want to seek an answer about the nature of humanity and the world. He had an opportunity to meet The Dalai Lama in Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh, India. He spent two days of quality discussion and interview with The Dalai Lama, which was an inspirational moment to have been granted the great privilege of sitting with a Holy man. It was even astounding when the interview output was made into a book entitled The Dalai Lama on What Matters Most.

Like Noriyuki Ueda, I am also delighted to learn more about Buddhist philosophy and The Dalai Lama's perspective on what truly matters. In 2013, Meeting with His Holiness The Dalai Lama in Dharamsala was a blessing. Meeting a compassionate man and a living Buddha was a memorable and meaningful moment in my life. It was only in his book that I first got to know who he is and what is his most significant contribution to this world.

What Can Buddhism Offer? Cultivating a compassionate nature. This is where we are attuned with a caring, loving spirit and an open heart to everyone regardless of race, creed, and social status. We strive to build an altruistic society despite our differences in faith, culture, and political beliefs. This is very notable in today's time when we reach out as brothers in times of difficulty. International aid in times of wars, conflicts, and natural calamities; we have seen how humanity is united beyond borders. When offering humanitarian assistance, we do not consider our personal, religious, or political differences. We help everyone: Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians. We are one, and we think of the survival of our dear brothers without hesitation and not through religious affiliations. An altruistic society is brought by a compassionate nature where one has an open heart to help and to serve.

Compassionate anger is another virtue worth cultivating. It may sound negative, but it is a positive approach toward peace and a detached world. Nowadays, people are becoming attached to materialism. People may desire more, become rich, and achieve more power. However, attachment to these may lead to suffering. Wealthy people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet may be among the world's most powerful financial assets. However, they use philanthropy to solve some of the world's problems, like poverty. They give massive amounts of their wealth to charities and even pledge to give entirely when they die.  Gaining wealth and giving it away for humanity's benefit is a commendable act of sacrifice and altruism. When many people started praying, these wealthy people gave away with open minds and big hearts.

Love is something we give without any condition; hence, the term unconditional love refers to people and everyone  good and evil. Showing love to the enemy is a good thing or a wrong move. It results from having an open heart and a greater attachment to peace of mind. In times of trouble, when we can no longer ask for help from the people who used to be closer to us, it may be an enemy who will answer our prayers. Love, with its mysterious ways, has the power to transform even the most unlikely relationships.

There's always a blessing in disguise, even with our worst enemies. Jesus would not have been the center of Christianity without the role played by Judas, his fallen disciple, and Pontious Pilate, who ordered his death. Also, the Dalai Lama is grateful for the pains and sufferings he experienced since he became more robust, even more powerful, and a global inspiration. Love is unconditional; we give it to all, even those we think don't deserve it.

'Enlightened Buddhism For A Modern World' is a calling to humanity. It's not about religion but a philosophy that is universal in its applicability. Back in 2013, Land of The Tibetans in Dharamsala: Closer to Heaven was my first encounter with the Buddhist people who may have achieved some enlightenment or perhaps on the path of Bodhisattva. I am a Christian, but I aspire for some enlightenment through the teachings of Buddhism. The virtues of peace, love, and compassion are relevant today, and these are Buddha's core teachings for humanity. Being enlightened is a spiritual gift; we learn to share it with others. What truly matters is our intention. We can achieve global peace and peace of mind, soul, and spirit with an open heart.

Nazareno 2017: Devotion to the Feast of the Black Nazarene

"Upon reflection, it's no wonder Filipino devotees would flock to the feast of the Black Nazarene. The image of Christ's passion symbolizes our suffering and unending challenges. The pain and desire to touch the rope symbolize our sacrifice and hope that " everything will be alright after the chaos or suffering."

The feast of the Black Nazarene is known to millions of Filipino devotees and faithful who are witnesses to the miracles of the Holy Image of Christ. The image, transported from Mexico to the Philippines in the 17th century, gave meaning to our lives as a symbol of Christ's passion and suffering on the cross.

Despite its origins in the 1950s, the Feast of the Black Nazarene remains a steadfast beacon of faith in the Philippines. Over the years, Filipino devotees have found strength in the healing powers and blessings bestowed by the Black Nazarene, such as physical healing, emotional comfort, and spiritual renewal, reinforcing their unwavering faith.

This year, the traslacion, a religious procession that involves the transfer of the Black Nazarene from one place to another, took 22 hours, almost a day of sacrifice, to venerate and be able to hold the rope that attached to the carriage of the Holy image. This tradition has been consistent every year, though many devotees defy any terror threat and a little discomfort as an act of sacrifice.

What could be the significance of this event to the millions of devotees? How could this belief strengthen their faith? What miracles does it honestly give after their sacrifice? These are some of the questions that need spiritual reflection and answers from a true devotee.

Back in 2013, I witnessed a massive gathering of the faithful. The Feast of The Black Nazarene 2013. That was my first time attending the live religious event of the Black Nazarene. I didn't witness the traslacion, but I solemnly prayed my intentions inside the Minor Basilica, known as the Quiapo church. That was a memorable experience, and since then, I have devoted myself to celebrating it on its feast day, wherever I may be.

Last year, Celebrating The Feast of The Black Nazarene 2016 was a fulfilling experience. It was my second time attending the live event, and it was a peaceful gathering near the Quiapo church. Beyond the experience was a profound religious awakening, as I felt one with the millions of Filipinos who hope to achieve a meaningful and fulfilled life.

I have yet to attend the live event this year, 2017. However, I will continue to follow up and update you on the celebration. Upon reflection, it's no wonder Filipino devotees would flock to the feast of the Black Nazarene. The image of the passion of Christ symbolizes our suffering and unending challenges.

The pains brought by the desire to touch the rope symbolize our sacrifice and the hope that everything will be alright after the chaos or suffering. This belief in miracles, which God can give in mysterious ways when we're defeated, is a powerful testament to the enduring strength of faith and hope, inspiring us to persevere in the face of adversity.

When people suffer and become sorrowful, an open hand and a grateful heart receive God's intervention when we rely on his power. What God can do to us is limitless, and we Filipinos believe that no matter how hard life seems, we can still make it if we surrender everything to God's loving mercy, providing us with reassurance and comfort in our times of need.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is a powerful reminder of our commitment and devotion, regardless of twists and turns. It is a celebration of the love we receive from God and the love we, in turn, offer back to our Lord, fostering a sense of connection and love among the faithful.

New Year 2017: A Hopeful Journey

"Starting the year right would mean doing what I believe would truly work based on previous experiences. Doing the right thing with the right mindset, virtues, and spiritual beliefs are essential to living."

The year 2016 ended with endearing challenges. Some setbacks created emotional struggle and solitude. Though not a pleasant year, I remained optimistic and in control of my reality and destiny. A few years ago, in 2009, I started believing in the power of the 'Law of Attraction,' which attracts magical experiences and magnificent results in my life. I've manifested some thought forms, and it's a potent tool to use when being hopeful of your fate and destiny. Since then, the manifestation of dreams and desires has been effortless. I couldn't imagine at first how I had achieved such tremendous energy that it had changed my life. I am a living reality of 'you are what you think, and I have made things possible -- through the power of the Law of attraction.

As we step into 2017, my faith in the power of the universe remains unwavering. Much like my spiritual and religious beliefs, the Law of Attraction continues to be my guiding light toward a life of excellence. While not all our desires may come to fruition immediately, I am a firm believer that with unwavering faith and perseverance, they will be realized in due time, according to the divine plan.

I learned the law of universal timing a few years back, and it has had a powerful effect on our lives. It has served as our guide in business, career, and life.

Starting the year right would mean doing what I believe would work based on previous experiences. Doing the right thing with the right mindset, virtues, and spiritual beliefs is essential to living. The goals I would set for this year are thoughts I may have had for years that have not manifested yet, but I still trust that the universe will conspire to make them a reality. We are destined to achieve everlasting happiness and bliss and can become a blessing to others in some ways within or beyond our capacity.

Mysterious energy surrounds and guides us to renew and relive a meaningful existence. We are bestowed with extraordinary powers to manifest our dreams and goals. This year will be a journey towards challenging tasks ahead and a rewarding fate and destinations our heart desires.

This year, 2017, is about being hopeful of unimaginable things. I still believe in magic. That's an incredible experience worth achieving. I will be guided internally by my will and instincts of right and wrong and lead a better life away from distractions, false beliefs, and bad luck. To myself, my family, relatives, and everyone close to my heart, I desire to be shielded by a defense of more vital energy.

A balanced lifestyle, free from harm and filled with optimism, is the key to dispelling the negative energy of manifestation. Balancing health at all levels and maintaining a positive outlook is the ultimate dream, which I believe is within reach if we allow God's grace to guide us. A great year is not just about the winning moments but also about the strength to rise every time we fall. The journey ahead is a testament to our firm will, a grateful heart, and a powerful spirit.

Christmas in Our Hearts 2016: Breakthrough to Success

"Achieving my cherished goals and dreams is always a 'breakthrough to success' that I must cultivate. The year will always end with a brighter hope and aspirations in our hearts for a great year and the year ahead."

This is the season of loving and caring. When full of emotions, we are more compassionate to everyone who matters. We give and receive something, and we feel good about it. This is the spirit of Christmas—the most beautiful time of the year. Whenever the Christmas season comes, it excites us and makes us fully alive. There's more incredible energy everywhere and a feeling of abundance. These feelings create a wonderful memory that lasts for a lifetime.

Christmas is a beautiful season and gives us a magical experience utterly different from the ordinary months that have passed. I remember memories whenever I play and listen to Christmas instrumentals, the relaxing piano music, and the saxophone's romantic sound. Christmas is truly in the air. It gives a flashback of the remarkable past and gives hope to the unknown future. As I quietly lay down on the bed, I close my eyes and reminisce about the beautiful time I've experienced. I recall the ups and downs that brought laughter and tears from the past to the present. The memories that wouldn't just fade away but remain in my heart forever.

Christmas is a joyful season that brings hope to empty, lacking, and abandoned people. When this time comes, we hear the children singing Christmas carols. They may not feel empty, but they hope to be given a part of what we have. We provide them with a part of our success. Though not that much, it remains memorable, and they take gratitude for that simple way of giving. Singing Christmas carols in the neighborhood was a unique childhood experience.

Aside from exercising our vocal powers, we enjoy the little money we receive. The happiness is accurate, and the excitement is unstoppable. I know how these kids feel when they receive something from every house and they sing a carol. That's an early practice of the virtue of gratitude. It's something that we must learn to value and practice. It brings more blessings and abundance. The more grateful we are, the more fulfilled we'll become. We don't feel empty, but we always have enough.

Christmas is a time of spiritual reflection. The year is about to end, and we affirm our goals, the desires we have accomplished, the directions we have taken, and the destination we have finally arrived at. A successful year doesn't mean being a winner in everything. There are times we feel defeated, unsure, and misguided. However, those emotions are just part of winning. To lose for a moment doesn't define the year-end success; it doesn't predict the following year's success or lead to demotivation and lack of meaning. Hence, it reminds us to renew our lives and make more extraordinary sacrifices for goals to achieve beyond the limits. This Christmas is to celebrate success and achievements that contribute to personal development. Reflecting on what I've achieved gives me a sense of fulfillment -- a blissful spirit.

The Past year has been a meaningful celebration. Christmas in Our Hearts 2015 brought us together with joy in our hearts. Since 2011, I've written Christmas in Our Hearts to reflect on the joyous season with my family. We anticipate a better year ahead of us when we're bonded. We are together in our hopes and aspirations for a bountiful new year full of blessings and mercy from God. This year, 2016, is another milestone in a beautiful journey. I've been taken to a place closer to home. A trip is full of hopes and plans for personal development. -- a destination where everything ends happily, feeling love and compassion.

Christmas 2016 is a simple yet meaningful celebration. The weather may not be favorable, but the rhythm goes unstoppable; music in a Christmas melody, and kids enjoy dancing to a Zumba beat. Celebrating "Misa de Gallo" commemorates the birth of Christ, the source of our Divine inspiration and power. This is followed by the traditional "Noche Buena" as thanksgiving.

Christmas is always in our hearts, and we hope for the best thing to come. I am hoping for more blessings, abundance, everlasting grace, and the loving mercy of God. This year, 2016, gave me a great life lesson. To live a life full of gratitude and a more positive spirit will be carried on the following year, 2017. I hope for the best for myself, my family, and everyone who truly matters. Achieving my cherished goals and dreams is always a 'breakthrough to success' that I must cultivate. The year will always end with brighter hopes and aspirations for a great year and the year ahead.
