New Year 2019: Sunshine After The Rain

A glittering, sparkling, and noisy celebration. That was the end of 2018! Fireworks had light up the dark street as we welcomed the New Year 2019.

Just a few minutes before the clock turned exactly 12 A.M., signifying that the New Year had officially started, I shouted out loud with my vocal power to sing the famous "Auld Lang Syne." I belted songs by Michael Bolton, "Go the Distance," and the rock star Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" was randomly chosen from the thousands on the list.

Good thing that the weather was good after the rain had stopped for people and families to welcome the New Year with optimistic hopes and somehow to light up some fireworks too. Nothing could have prevented the Filipinos from walking in the rain to have last-minute shopping to buy food for 'media noche,' including the 12 or 13 different kinds of fruit that would bring good luck, wealth, and prosperity according to the traditional Chinese feng shui.

Nothing could have stopped us from enduring the long line to buy a chocolate cake with a signature "New Year 2019" on top. After all, it's nothing compared to the challenges we endured in 2018.

In the last 10 years, the new year's Eve celebration was more colorful and noisy, but now the noise and glitters are shorter. Festivals are becoming more simple but still memorable ones. Perhaps we strive hard to make each new year celebration have something special on the table and be together with our dear family.

Some may have chosen to spend their time at a lavish 'year-end party with friends and acquaintances and enjoy the New Year countdown with them. I may even have the desire, but I always choose to spend the New Year with my family. Even how simple the celebration is, it gives a specific meaning that family is love, truly our love. A family who will be with us not only on the first day of the year but throughout the year and beyond.

Since 2012, I have spent precious time alone for some 'Year-end reflections or Year Reviews. I promised to reflect on how the previous year improved me, what I have accomplished, and what lessons learned. Christmas in Our Hearts 2018: A New Milestone, Self-Renewal, and New Beginning was a roller-coaster ride. That year brought massive struck-like lighting and a tremendous wave-like tsunami. 2018 may not be favorable, but I have fulfilled some goals and learned valuable life lessons. Just like when the year has ended, a new and brighter year ahead awaits. Though we may never know what is on, we remain hopeful.

As I look back on the previous year, New Year 2018: Beyond the Limits brought a rough journey with an uncertain destination. Several distractions didn't serve an actual purpose. Being out of focus can be destructive and put limits on our actions and coveted goals.

Returning to the present, this New Year reflection is about my goals and aspirations to achieve for the year and carry over the previous years' experiences and life lessons. No matter how unfavorable it may be, it is still part of my past and can be part of my present and future endeavors.

Higher level of endurance

My previous corporate jobs and positions required tremendous physical power. I have learned to improve my physical and mental stamina through the years since I learned to adopt powerful physical exercises and meditation, which I have not practiced actively for about 3 years already. May 2019, bring back lighter and more active physical energy through simple yet powerful exercises and meditation.

Physical Grounding

I realized a few years ago that nature has given us a way to stay grounded or connected with our roots. With our busy lifestyle and stressful day-to-day routine, we must remember to be dropped. Our mind takes us somewhere else, and we do not feel the natural elements of the earth for healing. Back in my hometown about 3 years ago, I put some medium-sized fine stones to add natural ingredients to our little garden. I would then invite my mother to take a barefoot walk with me. It gives a physical grounding effect aside from the natural reflexology it provides.

May this year bring me to places close to nature and experience real physical grounding. To leave footprints in the sand, camp by the beach, and sit on the shore.

Emotional health

To feel angry is normal, but to utter words that are not good might be hard to take back. Thus, one thing that I have learned is to be in control of emotions. It may be the hardest thing for me to do, but that is good for my emotional health. Sometimes I must keep quiet to avoid an argument despite the urge to do so. Now, I would understand people's actions and intentions and apply self-restraint in choosing words and appropriate actions.

Mindfulness and Social Awareness

Being mindful is good for mental health. Prayers and meditation, it will help us to look beyond ourselves. To lookout for an opportunity to be of service to someone or to a larger community. I have been part of a group that gives excellent service to humanity through social projects. However, I have not followed through for years. May this year open another door to reach out to people for empowerment.

The Power of Now

One thing that I have learned is to act in the moment whenever possible. To procrastinate is to delay things; soon, when there's a lack of inspiration, it's hard to do it. To be present at the moment is also mindful and could prevent us from having doubts, fears, and frustrations.

When I acted on my dream to start a business independently, I didn't wait to have everything perfect or accumulate more knowledge. I simply made the first move, and everything followed according to plans.

Grit and Perseverance

When all else fails, I have to accept things as they happen, analyze the situation, make a solution, and move on to what's next. Whatever happens, no matter how difficult the road is, I must survive the odds and keep the fire in me to reach my dreams. I can make things possible for myself with relentless desire, the highest hopes, and a positive spirit. If I dream of it, then I can achieve it.

The list of new year's resolutions may be endless, but these are the topmost achievable priorities for now. As I remember, those 2 songs I have sung may subconsciously be what I am. I always aspire to "Go the Distance" to reach the extra mile. I also take control of my life because "It's My Life" is my life, and I must live it. And remember those people who made a sacrifice to walk in the rain? They may have been over and gone through the pain.

A blissful New Year 2019!

Eternal Peace: Reliving the Legacy

Life is short, but once lived fully and with dignity deserves the highest gratitude and honor from the living and in eternity. As they say, we only live once, and as much as possible, with all our energy or power, we can maximize our potential and live our best lives. It could be a thousand years of 'secret' message of success, but this is still relevant today.

Someone could be living the shortest life on earth and may have gone through all the challenges and obstacles in life. They may have secretly endured the pain and sorrows. However, at some point, we are bound to give up and let life control our fate  our next destination.

Even at the crossroads of life, when we are weak and surrounded by people who are dear to us, we are helpless and powerless, but there is a specific energy that holds on to our life beyond our control. When all we can do is accept one's fate, it burrows the most profound pain to see the suffering. When someone has reached the final moment, all we can do is give a decent and dignified way of letting go. To gather and pray, to reminisce precious moments, and to offer the deepest sympathy and respect.

We may not remember the conversations and expressions, but we can recognize meaningful positive emotions. We will never forget the smiles even through pain  a fighting spirit amidst suffering.

We may remember the events, but we will never forget the laughter, the stories, and the wisdom shared. You were there to witness how we survived our challenges, just like how you survived your battles. You were ahead and have seen several years of transformation in the families and communities you loved.

People may have forgotten you, but we can never forget the greatest gift you have given us. A precious gift that will remain forever, even in generations to come. You are gone but have left a legacy to the faith community, the place you have loved wholeheartedly.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish: A Divine Gift is a Divinely-inspired contribution. It all started with your generosity, loving heart, and sense of community. You have seen its development from groundbreaking until a community of religious people comes in. You may not be able to physically witness its growth in years to come, but you will be there to see its glory in spirit. A heavenly place for your loved ones and the people, even in remote areas, will be served and lead in service.

You taught us the virtue of humility and service. You may not have everything to give, but in our hearts, you have provided more than enough to your family and thousands of people. Now, you are in peace and maybe traveling in paradise as your final destination. If there is life after death, you will be the happiest to see your creator and reunite with your loved ones who are long gone before us.

You have given so much; your legacy will be remembered and shared. Divine Light: Our God's Greatest Love may have been your greatest gift and contribution, and the people, in return, have given their most tremendous respect and deepest sympathy to your eternal journey. We have lost you, but you are now on your way to eternal life, away from suffering and pain.

We thank you for your love and care. We love you, and may you rest in eternal peace and the presence of the Almighty God.

Christmas in Our Hearts 2018: A New Milestone, Self-Renewal and New Beginning

What a year it has been! A recollection of beautiful memories and sad realities. This year 2018, brought a different view and meaning of life; self-restraint and taking control of emotions to a higher level. Now it's time to look back and reminisce on the year that was and my thoughts on how I fair with my plans and decisions.

The previous year 2017, may have been the most challenging ever. Christmas in Our Hearts 2017: The Unexpected Reality would have hit a punch and destruction, but have received a warm embrace and affection from a loving family back home. However, 2018 gave me a new beginning and hope, and I will fight and survive.

I have been more positive all through these years since I have learned to elevate my higher consciousness, but losing oneself along the way also loses the power once established. There are miracles, as I believe, whereas uncertainties would have to be defeated.

Patience, tolerance, and perseverance can mean a lot for higher aspirations. It may not be easy, but it can be embedded in consciousness and applied in business and life.

Personal Development

Since 2011 I have written and shared several personal development stories and quotations. This year I have compiled some quotable quotes from my writings.
  • The Road Ahead. I started to share my personal quotes about my life experiences and the wisdom gained through the years. Whenever I get inspired and motivated, I capture whatever beautiful scene lifts my spirit. The Road Ahead is still under construction, with no shortcuts to the best destination.
  • The Crossroads. There are setbacks along the journey, and I must feel the agony. My sufferings would have helped me to look back on what I have done and have to pay back. The Crossroads would remind me about the right road and learn not to take the wrong "U" turn.
  • Soulful Sunday. There is something so beautiful about Sunday morning upon waking up. A certain feeling of joy in the heart awakens a blissful spirit. Soulful Sunday is about my reflections and thoughts about significant events impacting my life.
Those subjects above serve as a GPS, a personal guide for self-mastery and renewal. I gently lift my soul for healing and reconciliation whenever I feel crushed and defeated.

A New Milestone

I said before that when the door closes, another opportunity knocks. In the third quarter of 2018, I acted on my dream to develop and execute my entrepreneurial plans. It may not be prestigious or grandiose, but pushing through and breaking the barriers made me the first step. With my previous corporate experiences, I have developed my dealings with people through customer service and customer experience.

My first venture will succeed and eventually take it to the next level. With the people who tirelessly and continuously support me on my back, I will focus and finish what I have started. It always feels good to create and learn something new. It even challenges us on how to keep it running and moving forward and reaching its peak.

In this venture, there's no place for giving up, and there's always a will to keep moving. Having more patience and dedication would fuel it to success.

The World of Entrepreneurship is overwhelming. To have planted a seed and nourished it to grow would be more challenging. We keep on improving and finding ways to make our dreams bound to materialize. It May have been a thousand miles away from expected reality and may take years to cultivate and harvest, but it could be more rewarding and fulfilling.

A New Beginning

Before the year ends, some events may have shaken us.
  • Death. A loved one may have gone, but the memories will remain in our hearts. It may be an absence of life, but a beginning of a new incredible journey in the afterlife. It's not about saying goodbye until we see each other again. We give respect and gratitude, honor for a life well-lived, and will forever cherish the meaningful days shared.
  • Birth. A new beginning may be a rebirth or new birth. Just before the celebration of Christ's birth, we welcomed the birth of my nephew,  Matthew, which name means "Gift from God," an angel of God.
  • Hope. When all else fails, one thing that gives us confidence and courage is hoping for something out of or beyond our control. We can never have it all. However, we can achieve our best realities when we hope for the best. We can constantly strengthen our willpower to reach greater heights and let gratitude pave the way to the more meaningful and successful life we ever wanted. Our hopes and dreams are fueled by our passion, desire, and commitment to live our best lives.

Relationships

Opportunities are endless, and the year 2018 created a tsunami-like reality. Creating health awareness inspires people to commit to a healthier living in an environment with lesser stress and not away from home.
  • Family. The source of inspiration and motivation to move on is the family. They support us in our goals and make our dreams come true. I take pride in my family and will forever be grateful for their love.
  • Friends. We cherish the great memories from old and new friends for meaningful friendships. They may not have been connected for years, but pleasant memories connect the gap. We cherish those who have not forgotten us and keep those who remain. There are connections we have to cut and others we would have to build.

Before the year ends, assessing what life has been and what opportunities we have fought for is a good feeling. There's no perfect year; either we win some or lose some. The battle will always be there as we become more fierce than ever. We will remain grounded in our realities and connected with our families and communities.

As the year passes, our world becomes more significant, and our responsibility will become more outstanding. We will surely win in the game of life with faith in God and other Divine beings.

The Christmas season is closer to my heart, and I never fail to give a reflection since 2011, when I started blogging. This is the season of renewal and recollection. A season of love and a celebration of love and life.

Devotion to The Miraculous Medal

I grew up in a family significantly devoted to the Miraculous Medal. The Holy Mary: Mother of God in France, revealed the precious medal on November 29, 1830. I remember this devotion to be celebrated by my family annually every 10th day of November -- initially every 27th day of November in celebration of my father's actual birthday; however, it was moved to the 10th of November in the early years of the devotion.

Our relatives, mostly the elderly, are among those who venerate and pray religiously while singing praises of hymn and thanksgiving to glorify Mary: Mother of Christ. They help us through prayers to worship Mary and Jesus and to pray for our intention. The Miraculous Medal of Mary never failed to hear our prayers through her intercession. It is through prayers that healing will happen. Recovery of our body, mind, and spirit. Holistic spiritual healing is granted through the promises of the Miraculous Medal.

I am a living witness of the miracles of the religious medal of Mary. Our family may have experienced a lot of struggles and unending challenges, but we have remained strong and positive through the years. We have overcome obstacles and trials that would have broken us. However, prayer is a potent weapon to overcome defeat.

I also remember just before graduation when we were given a booklet of the Miraculous Medal by our teacher, who is also a devotee. The prayers helped me overcome doubts and negativity and helped me to pass the board exam with positivity. Through the intercession of the Blessed Mary through his son Jesus Christ our God, we remain prayerful for graces and blessings in our life.

It's been 3 decades already that we are annually celebrating our devotion to the Miraculous Medal, which will continue for years to come. The Blessed Mary never fails to hear us when we ask for her intercession. We glorify her name and give her the highest veneration as the mother of Christ - our Lord and our savior. Just like her message to all of us: "Oh, Mary! Conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee."

Blessed Mother Mary, pray for us. Amen.

When September Ends: Timeless Wishes

There's nothing more to be excited about than hearing Christmas songs in the Philippines. That moment is genuinely awaited by many: the month of September. Perhaps there is something so special about the beginning of the "Ber" month season. This is when we feel loving, caring, and somewhat excited about the remaining few months before the year ends. We may still need to achieve some of our goals, but it's never too late.

What makes September so unique for me is that this is the month that I was born; this is my birth month, and the same as with the person who has given birth to me; my loving mother. We both celebrate our birthday in September, and it's always a fantastic month, like the autumn season. We feel the positive vibe and are more excited about what comes next.

This month, I feel vital energy in my goals and desires. I am more motivated to execute my ideas and plan into action. This may be a tiring month based on actual experience, but in the end, it is fulfilling. Nothing in life comes easy, and when we aspire for success, we have to sweat it out to fuel our passion and desires. Some tasks may always be challenging, and that needs patience and tolerance. It is when we persevere that we reap the best rewards after that. We trust the system and are guided to do what is just. Then, we feel relieved and grateful for the challenges we have survived.

It may have been a fantasy, but the time has come to take action on the dream that was put on 'hold' for the longest time. No matter how long it would be, I still take the initiative to live on my dreams and make them 'alive'; otherwise, they will still be a dream and not reality. Wake me up when September ends because this month may be full of make-believe ideas turning into action. Here comes October, the first month of the last quarter. This is it! And may the Divine guides inspire and bless the venture I am now into. May this be the fulfillment of my most awaited heart's desire.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish: A Divine Gift

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish at Sitio Lomboy, Linambasan, Jamindan, Capiz

Six years ago, in 2012, a fulfilled Divine call took place for the groundbreaking of a mission station for the people of Linambasan and nearby Barangays in Jamindan. Hundreds of religious devotees flocked to this sanctuary to kneel and pray, give thanks, and receive blessings from the Divine: our God and in the intercession of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the Mother of Christ.

The year 2012, when humanity was intrigued by the end of the world prophesy, is the same year when a new beginning is about to start in a particular place Divinely chosen. The barangay of Linambasan; is one of the largest in the town of Jamindan and is home to strong family ties and religious people. It's just a few miles away from the capital barangay of Poblacion, where people used to celebrate the mass at the Parish of San Sebastian—building a new Parish bringing people closer to their homes.

The Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is the 3rd in Jamindan after San Sebastian Parish and San Vicente Ferrer Parish. The first 2 Parishes are closer to the people's hearts and attract thousands of parishioners on their feast day. The newly established Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish would bring people closer to the Mother of Christ, our Lord and savior. When we cry for help, we cling to a mother, and she answers our needs. Just like when we call for a Divine Mother, we would hear our prayer and act on her intercession. The Divine Mother never fails to listen to her child, and she would bring us closer to her son, Jesus, the son of God.

It was on July 4, 2018, after six years of religious service, when Rev. Father John Denosta left the Parish he started. Sunday Thanksgiving: Graceful Service to The People is a tribute to his love and service to the people. From a mission station, he led the faithful to the new Parish, a bigger home and a beautiful sanctuary. The people revered his fellowship and will forever be grateful for his service.

Divine Light: Our God's Greatest Love
was showered when Lomboy Mission Station began. As a growing religious community, the spiritual service extends to neighboring barangays of Milan, Lucero, Igang, Agbun-od, Agloloway, Jaena Norte, Jaena Sur, and to Pasol-o, San Juan, and Ganzon.

When Fr. Denosta bid farewell, the parishioners welcomed another Reverent Father. The newly installed parish priest, Fr. Jeffrey Estrella, will continue serving the people. May the Divine love and light be showered upon him to be shared with the faithful and everyone seeking the spiritual refuge we call our religious sanctuary. It is for everyone and a Divine gift we need to protect and share.

Sunday Thanksgiving: Graceful Spiritual Service to the People

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Sitio Lomboy, Linambasan, Jamindan, Capiz

When called upon by God, one has to act on it. Our Divine calling is our mission to accomplish on Earth. Our purpose is to serve for the Glory of God, our creator, and to be of service to our brothers and sisters in Christhis beloved son. This is a fundamental church teaching, and we as a family should walk through the path of Divine love and light.

I was born and raised as a Christian and have developed a Christ-centered consciousness. I grew up and instilled Christian values and virtues through the church and formal education. Even now, I still recall the teachings and beautiful memories the Christian faith taught me. Back then, my mother encouraged us to celebrate Sunday mass as a kid. That would have raised consciousness about the importance of religion and actively being involved in activities initiated by the church.

I didn't grow up to be very religious or a devoted Christian. In fact, I have learned to witness and observe other religions and emulate their ways their faith and action. It wasn't bad after all! I have learned to accept other faith and respect them as human beings rather than hate them for having a different creed.

I was born and baptized as a Roman Catholic, but I have also been exposed to other Christian faith, The Baptist, Born Again, Aglipay Church, and Jehova's Witnesses. I have learned to embrace them, even for a short period. In my travels abroad, I have also been exposed to different religions; Hinduism, Buddhism, and the Bahai Faith; however, it didn't affect my faith. I didn't question my Catholic beliefs, but it has strengthened my confidence even more.

God will touch our spirit either for renewal or for greater service. There will always be somebody who will lead the way and start it all. Somebody who had been touched by the Holy Spirit— a Priest, a Catholic devotee, a religious community. At some time in our lives, we have been called to act on our faith and become like Peter when he said, "Upon this rock, I will build my church," That is the beginning of a community founded by Christ.

Archdiocese of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Sitio Lomboy, Barangay Linambasan, is the church founded by the faithful. They have come together to build a church they will call their spiritual home, a Divine sanctuary. It was in July 2012 when the first mass was celebrated, with Reverent Father John Denosta as the first-ever priest assigned to lead the church. It started as a mission station until it was declared an Archdiocese in January 2018.

It was 6 six years of solidarity, compassion, and service to the people, and this legacy will last a lifetime. Generations will come, and the church will become more vital than ever. Every year we see a significant change and the faithful building a more beautiful church that reflects their Divinity.

Good Friday procession in 2015

Our Divine Mother of Christ would hear us and pray for our intentions. In times of crisis, we call upon the Divine, and through the intercession of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, her children will be comforted in peace and hope. For about 6 years, the church has become a haven for everyone seeking renewal, a peaceful sanctuary, and a place to feel deeply involved in a spiritual community.

The faithful must continue spreading the good news and will continue serving with all their love and energy. The church is for everyone, and this gift from God will shower blessings on those who believe, share, and serve. May the Divine love and light be our source of salvation and guide us to living an eternal life forever and ever.

Father's Day Special: Real Life Superhero

The most unforgettable life lesson I learned from my father, perhaps, is feasible but always challenging. It is about dreaming big and being optimistic that I will make it; with all my energy and power. I wish to have been given powers just like superheroes and live an extraordinary life, just like when I was a kid who used to daydream about holding a ball of fire in my hands or reading someone's mind.

Being a superhero is a delusion, but when I was a kid, that was like an authentic experience, something magical brought by creative imagination. Everyone may have a similar fantasy, and even up to adulthood, whenever we feel like we would want to escape from reality. We just want to be saved from trouble and stress by such delusional thinking.

As a grown-up man, things never get easy. Sometimes I fantasize about situations if I find living in the real world hard. If only I am wealthy enough not to work hard for a living and just journey to places whenever I want. Give away money to the less privileged to lessen their burden of suffering. However, such thoughts are just a fantasy. Going back to the real world, I need to work hard to earn for myself so I can live decently, travel to places with just enough money, and give even a little amount to the needy. I realized that I don't need to fulfill my dreams just by having a fantasy world in my thoughts. I should escape from the troubled thoughts and start living the kind of life that I have.

Growing up with the right mindset and the right action is a challenge. But there is one superhero whom I believe would rescue and be willing to give a little power, and that is a Father. He is there to push us when we feel weak, when we feel unappreciated, when we feel undervalued, and when we feel powerless. I used to be like that, and up to the present time. My Father would care to give his precious advice about life. He is full of wisdom and inspires me to exert more energy to face all the challenges.

I may encounter difficulties in life, but I should be living fearlessly. I have to stand tall and ready to face all the battles. Sometimes I feel like quitting, but specific energy pushes me to move forward. I need to slow down, take a break for a moment and come back with clear thoughts and a positive spirit. I thank my father for passing on the positive virtues worth emulating. I may not have accomplished much in life as he does. However, a dose of positivity would help me to achieve success.

Looking back, about 5 years ago, I have written about Father's Day Special: Leading The Wayand the message is about willpower; having a fighting spirit. Still relevant in today's time and will serve as a guide in living a better life. I can make my dreams come true despite not being a superhero. I may not have tremendous power, but I should remain optimistic that I can handle life with all my energy and power. Not imagined, but a real power that comes from the heart and mind. That's my weapon... that is my power.

Today, we honor and thank our Father for raising us well and guiding us in living our lives. Like a compass, you pointed out the right way, and you cheered us up when we arrived at the destination. We are forever grateful for the good life you dreamed for us and wish you the better life you deserve.

Memories of Summer 2018

There's nothing that compares to the feeling of happiness that the summer brings. Some may hate the hot and humid temperature, while it is truly bliss for others. Whenever the favorable temperate month of February ends, it excites us. It looks forward to out-of-town trips, adventures, or a simple staycation to unwind and rejuvenate. The most joyful time of the year is spent at the beach, a waterfall, a river, or a mountain resort to relieve intense heat.

What makes the summer of 2018 memorable is the journey on the road. No matter how far the destination is, we still enjoy the scenery and can't wait to experience what the place offers. The calm and gentle blow of the wind, the allure of the ocean, the amazing sunrise in the east, and the beautiful sunset in the west are the things that awaken our spirit. When we recognize the beauty of the natural wonders, we experience ultimate happiness that is truly memorable.

There's a feeling of great relief and a sense of renewal for even a short while once we temporarily escape from the everyday work. Natural healing cleanses and purifies us to make us complete and ready to face a more complex world with calmness and peace. I always believe that our body always finds its way to healing itself. It's as if our soul wanders around, and our physical body brings us somewhere. Our soulful desire makes us live our purpose to stop for a while and take a deep breath as we enjoy the precious moment.

Summer Food bazaar at Bonifacio High Street

Summertime is about the enjoyment of little things that matters. We enjoy being outdoors and experiencing life on the street. We want the food accompanied by upbeat music. We appreciate the vibrant and positive energy that gives us a sense of accomplishment as we reflect on our victorious plans and actions. We made it! We succeeded! and we express our gratitude for it.

Summertime is the preservation phase of the year and a great time to energize and revitalize before the onset of the rainy season or monsoon. We enjoy the season in the sun and return to our place with much gratitude and peace in our hearts and mind. During our travel, we develop realizations about work and life balance that we deserve a much-needed break once in a while to relieve stress and burnout; the prize is an appreciation for a meaningful life — a life well-lived.

Mother's Day Special: Unconditional Love

A Mother is someone who loves us with all her heart. That is the definition that most of us would describe to our mother. Being loving and caring is beyond her duty of motherhood; it is a commitment and eternal. When we were young, we were helpless, and we ended up crying and clinging to our mother, who would then comfort us, making us feel safe and protected. As we grow up, our mother is still there, who watches us embrace our own world, ensuring that we can stand up on our own.

Today, we celebrate Mother's Day, a celebration of life; we are here in this world because of her and continue to live better with her undying love and support. Mother's Day Special: A Celebration of Love is not just a one-day celebration. It is to be remembered and celebrated at any time of the year whenever we feel the need to appreciate them and make them feel special. We may not be showing off how deeply we love them, but somehow we get to make them feel good with our sweet gestures.

Distance may not become a hindrance in showing our love to our mother. She is there to listen when we feel weak or frightened. She assures us that everything will be fine and you will keep fighting. The world is harsh, and we need to become a fighter in the real world. Mother's Day Special: Compassionate Care is a way of raising us to become better people and to realize our purpose in the community where we live in. We are taught never to give up easily, but a victory comes our way whenever we feel lost. We just need to be prepared to accept and live it wholeheartedly.

Today, some children may not have a biological mother on their side. But someone has given them hope and stood up to be their mother. It is a commitment and a testament to unconditional love. Blessed are those kids with a second mother to be at their side and guide them on their way up. When the time comes that they are living independently, they will reminisce and look back to their second mother and honor them for raising them well and for giving them a life worth living.

Our mother, our heroes! Our fighter and our defender! They will always protect and love us, and we give them back by following them because mother knows what is suitable for their kids. We honor and give them thanks. To our mothers, we pray they have more strength and power to live in this world and continue loving us children today and forever.

The Great Escape

The weekend is an excellent time for soulful conversation or reflection. But, when today's lifestyle is spent mainly on computers or smartphones, there's little time for a natural and more profound retreat about the things that matter; our life's soulful journey and the quest for meaning. I may be guilty of binge-watching Netflix series or movies, but hey! It's Sunday, just a moment of relaxation and appreciation of visual arts.

After all, we got to enjoy and get a moral lesson from the striking lines of the actors. Sometimes, the simple and short movie lines strike us from the inside, leaving us in tears. It brings back beautiful memories of a recent or distant past; we couldn't get over it quickly.

What's with The Dalai Lama that I got so interested in watching a movie about his great escape? It was back in 2011 that I started to know more about him and how significant and influential he is to India and the rest of the world. The Dalai Lama may be a Tibetan by blood, but he has become a world-renowned spiritual leader through the years. Then in India, I started reading his books about love, peace, and compassion — genuinely captivating to the soul. Perhaps, many people still do not know him, but his message of love and compassion is similar to that of The Pope. I am a Christian, but love is a universal language that unites humanity and the world. Same as with compassion, on which we have evolved as human beings. When we love someone, it's not about the similarities that we are looking into. We love someone regardless of race, creed, or beliefs.

The Dalai Lama's great escape was his sacrifice to save Tibet and its people. It was in 1959 when he sought asylum in India to escape Chinese persecution. He feared for his life and the fate of the Tibetans if they chose to stay under Chinese rule. His escape didn't mean cowardice, but he was thinking about the future of the Tibetans. Almost 6 decades have passed, and The Dalai Lama is still strong and remains a highly influential political and spiritual figure. He is the greatest gift to India and is visited by thousands of people globally in his hometown in Dharamsala, the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. People who are into spiritual practice would love to see and hear from his lectures and stories that are practical in today's time.

I was fortunate to have seen him personally in Dharamsala back in 2013. Meeting His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala was one of my most incredible experiences. To have met him is a spiritual bliss that I will always cherish. His philosophy is beyond Buddhism's teachings, and that was when I saw Buddhism from a different perspective. It is simply universal teaching about love, peace, and compassion that is relevant in our time.

The Dalai Lama's great escape led to a movement calling for a "Free Tibet" even after decades of settlement in India. The Tibetan Government-in-exile is very much active in its quest for freedom. To be an independent state concerning their culture and spirituality. How could his great escape be relevant in our time? As I watched the movie, I could imagine his suffering, but that is due to his undying love for his people. The Dalai Lama left Tibet without expensive and luxurious possessions. He just had enough to survive the long days of wandering until he reached the spiritual land of the free.

Sometimes we have to make the greatest sacrifice for our loved ones. We have to go independently by leaving them behind. However, no matter how long we haven't seen them, they are still in our hearts. Our love has evolved so that it is not only about serving them but serving others with love and compassion. The great escape is about leaving our fears, hatred, and other negative emotions that are toxins in our being. Today, people may fear the unknown, becoming hateful and full of revenge and wicked thoughts. We should have aligned ourselves back to our nature of being good.

We have seen countries go against each other, world leaders fighting each other, and citizens against their governments. We have not ended centuries-old conflicts and wars resulting in poverty and suppression. When shall we become free again? Free from abuses, maltreatment, and slavery? When shall we end physical and emotional suffering and killing? We may never know what the future holds, but one thing that can free us from pain and suffering is when we learn to plan for our great escape. Like the Dalai Lama, he made a wise decision and acted bravely to face his fears, deal with the unknown and free his heart from hatred. The Dalai Lama's spiritual journey teaches us why love and compassion can free us all from modern-day suffering. We can live not by having more but by having what is truly important and meaningful.

Back to reality, that was another quality Netflix time. With a cup of coffee and relaxing meditation music, I can have a good night's sleep and start the working week full of positivity. No matter how tough our world has become, we still have to free our inner world not to defeat our life's purpose our quest for life and meaning.
